# Escrow and common errors

What the Cfx.re escrow protects, what you can edit, and how to fix the usual startup errors.

Vision Scripts use the **Cfx.re Asset Escrow** to protect our work from leaks. Here's what that means for you.

## What is encrypted and what is open

| Open: you can read and edit | Encrypted: protected core |
| --------------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------- |
| `config.lua`: every setting             | The core Lua files (`client/`, `server/`, `shared/`) |
| `bridge/`: framework, notify, inventory | 3D models (`.ydr`)                                   |
| `open/`: developer hooks                |                                                      |
| `locales/`: all texts                   |                                                      |
| `install/`: items, images, SQL          |                                                      |

{% hint style="success" %}
You never need to edit an encrypted file. Everything a server owner or developer needs is in the open files.
{% endhint %}

## Requirements for escrowed scripts

* A recent FiveM server build (escrow needs **5181 or newer**; we recommend the latest recommended build).
* Your server's license key must belong to the **same Cfx.re account** that owns the asset.

## Common errors

<details>

<summary><strong>"You lack the required entitlement"</strong></summary>

The server's license key isn't linked to the account that owns the asset.

1. Check which account owns your key at [portal.cfx.re](https://portal.cfx.re).
2. Make sure the asset appears in that account's **Granted Assets**.
3. If you bought with a different account, open a ticket with us **and** Cfx.re support.
4. Restart the server fully (not just the resource) after fixing it.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>"Failed to verify protected resource"</strong></summary>

Usually a corrupted or partial upload to your host.

1. Download the asset again from the portal.
2. Re-upload it with your FTP / file manager in **binary** mode (FileZilla does this by default).
3. Don't open and re-save any `.fxap` or encrypted file.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>The resource doesn't start / "Couldn't find resource"</strong></summary>

* Keep the folder name exactly as delivered (for example `Chapo_BoxingCreator`).
* Make sure the folder isn't nested twice (`resources/Chapo_BoxingCreator/Chapo_BoxingCreator/...`).
* Add `ensure <name>` to `server.cfg` **after** its dependencies.

</details>

<details>

<summary><strong>Syntax error in config.lua after editing</strong></summary>

A missing comma or bracket is the usual cause. The server console shows the line number. Compare that line with the original file, or paste the error in our [Discord](https://discord.gg/ZvHtyhyBp4).

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://visionstore.gitbook.io/visionstore-docs/getting-started/escrow-and-common-errors.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
