# Showing your badge

The player guide - show your badge, and read a badge someone shows you.

{% hint style="info" %}
This page is written for **players**. Feel free to link it in your server's Discord.
{% endhint %}

## Getting a badge

Badges are issued by your department's leaders at a badge desk. Your photo is taken on the spot and printed on your ID card, together with your name, rank, badge number and issue date.

## Show it

* **Use the badge item** in your inventory, or
* type **`/badge`**. With several badges, a menu lets you pick one.

Your character pulls out the badge, and everyone within 3.5 m sees the open leather wallet with the metal badge and your photo ID card. They turn their head towards you.

Press **Backspace** to put it away. The badge also closes by itself after a few seconds.

{% hint style="warning" %}
You can't show a badge while dead, downed or cuffed, and you have to wait a few seconds between two presentations.
{% endhint %}

## Reading a badge you're shown

Every badge shows its status:

| Status           | Meaning                                           |
| ---------------- | ------------------------------------------------- |
| **VALID**        | A real, current badge.                            |
| **REVOKED** | Voided by an admin, or replaced by a newer badge. |
| **INACTIVE** | Real, but the holder no longer has the job. |
| **UNREGISTERED** | The item doesn't match any issued badge. |

## Change the close key

Open **Settings → Key Bindings → FiveM** and change **Put the badge away**.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://visionstore.gitbook.io/visionstore-docs/scripts/badges/guides/showing-badges.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
