# Crafting (player guide)

Everything a player needs to know to place a bench, craft, level it up and keep it running.

{% hint style="info" %}
This page is written for **players**. Feel free to link it in your server's Discord.
{% endhint %}

## Your bench

A crafting bench is a real object. **Each bench has its own level, XP, condition and stash**, and keeps them when you pick it up, trade it or place it somewhere else.

### Placing it

Use the bench item from your inventory. A see-through preview appears:

| Key                 | Action                                           |
| ------------------- | ------------------------------------------------ |
| ← / →               | Rotate                                           |
| ↑ / ↓               | Move away / closer                               |
| Page Up / Page Down | Raise / lower                                    |
| Left Alt | Snap to the ground |
| **Enter**           | Place                                            |
| X                   | Cancel                                           |
| TAB | Switch placement mode (if your server allows it) |

If the spot isn't allowed, the preview tells you why (too steep, in water, too close to another bench, no room to stand...).

### Picking it up

Stand next to it and press **G**. You can't pick up a bench while it still has crafts running or waiting to be claimed. Some map benches can never be picked up.

## Crafting

1. Walk up to a bench and press **E**. The camera moves in and you use the screen on the bench with your mouse.
2. Pick a recipe from the list. You see its ingredients, results, time and XP.
3. Pick a quantity and click **Craft**. Your ingredients are taken and the craft goes into the **Craft Queue**.
4. When it's done, choose where the result goes:
   * **Take to Bag**: into your inventory.
   * **Send to Table Stash**: into the bench's own stash (if it has one). **Send All to Stash** sends every finished craft at once.

Press **ESC** to leave the bench. Crafts keep running on the server while you're away, even through a restart, so you can come back later to claim them.

{% hint style="info" %}
Changed your mind? **Cancel** a craft in the queue to get back exactly the ingredients you paid.
{% endhint %}

Some recipes have extras your server may use:

* **Failure chance**: some units may fail. Depending on the recipe, you get all, part or none of the ingredients back.
* **Cooldown**: you can only craft it a few times per period.
* **Blueprints**: you need to own a blueprint first.

## Bench levels

Every craft gives the bench XP. As the bench levels up, more recipes unlock. Locked recipes show how many levels are left. The level belongs to the **bench**: anyone using a level 5 bench gets level 5 recipes.

## Wear and maintenance

Benches wear a little with every craft. The **Bench Condition** goes from *Well Maintained* to *Used*, *Worn*, *Critical Condition* and finally *Out of Service*.

* A worn bench crafts **slower**.
* Very worn benches may refuse the most demanding recipes.
* An Out of Service bench refuses new crafts until it's overhauled.
* Wear **never** destroys your items.

To repair it, carry a maintenance kit, open the bench and click **Service Bench**:

| Kit                        | Restores | Works from                | Repair time |
| -------------------------- | -------- | ------------------------- | ----------- |
| Workbench Service Kit      | 15-25%   | 26% condition             | 5 hours     |
| Industrial Maintenance Kit | 35-50%   | 6% condition              | 3 hours     |
| Precision Overhaul Kit     | 65-85%   | 0% (revives a dead bench) | 1 h 30 min  |

The bench is out of service while it's being repaired. A started repair can't be cancelled. The kits can be crafted on the Tools Bench.

*(Default values. Your server may have changed them.)*

## The bench stash

Open **Table Information** on the bench screen to **Buy Stash**, **Upgrade Stash** or **Open Stash**. The stash belongs to the bench and moves with it.

## Crafting Mastery (your perks)

Bench levels belong to the bench. **Mastery belongs to you.** Every finished craft gives you Mastery XP, which you spend on perks:

| Branch                 | What it does                        |
| ---------------------- | ----------------------------------- |
| **Crafting Speed** | Your crafts take less time. |
| **Table Maintenance** | Your repairs finish sooner. |
| **Crafting Knowledge** | You earn more Mastery XP. |
| **Careful Handling** | Your crafting wears the bench less. |

* **Unlock** a perk with Mastery XP. It's yours forever.
* **Equip** it to make it work. You have a limited number of **perk slots** (2 by default), so choose a specialty. Equipping a higher tier in the same branch replaces the lower one.
* Open the tree from **Crafter Skills** in Table Information, or anywhere with **`/craftingperks`**.

{% hint style="warning" %}
Repeating the same cheap recipe over and over earns less and less XP, and past a daily amount XP slows down. Crafting a variety of things is the fastest way to grow.
{% endhint %}

## Hidden NPC vendors

Somewhere on the map, a few NPCs can sell you a brand new bench. They don't have blips: you need to find them.

1. Talk to them (third eye / ox\_target).
2. Pay the entry fee.
3. **View Requirements** to see the materials they want, then **Deposit Materials**. You can bring them in several trips, progress is saved.
4. When everything is delivered, **Collect Your Workbench**. Make room in your inventory first.

On some servers you must complete the NPC before you're allowed to use that type of bench at all.

### For police

Stand next to a vendor and type **`/policecustody`**. The NPC surrenders and stops trading until the next server restart.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://visionstore.gitbook.io/visionstore-docs/scripts/crafting/guides/crafting.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
