# Quick start

From install to your first crafted item in five minutes.

This walkthrough gives you a Tools Bench, places it, and crafts a lockpick on it.

{% stepper %}
{% step %}

### Give yourself a bench

As an admin, type:

```
/crafting give <your id> tools
```

A **Tools Bench** item lands in your inventory. Each one is a brand new bench with its own level, XP and condition.
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Place it

Use the bench item from your inventory. A see-through preview appears in front of you:

| Key                 | Action                     |
| ------------------- | -------------------------- |
| ← / →               | Rotate                     |
| ↑ / ↓               | Move it away / closer      |
| Page Up / Page Down | Raise / lower              |
| Left Alt | Snap to the ground |
| **Enter**           | Place it                   |
| X                   | Cancel (you keep the item) |

The preview tells you why a spot is refused (too steep, in water, too close to another bench...).
{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Get the materials

The lockpick needs **3× Metal Scrap** and **1× Plastic**. Give them to yourself with ox\_inventory's admin command, for example:

```
/giveitem <your id> metalscrap 3
/giveitem <your id> plastic 1
```

{% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Craft

Walk up to the bench and press **E**. The camera moves in and the screen on the bench comes alive.

1. Click **Lockpick** in the recipe list.
2. Pick a quantity and click **Craft**.
3. The craft appears in the **Craft Queue** with a timer (15 seconds per lockpick).
   {% endstep %}

{% step %}

### Claim it

When the timer ends, click **Take to Bag** on the finished card. The lockpick is in your inventory and the bench earned XP.

Press **ESC** to leave the bench, and **G** next to it to pick it up again. It keeps its level and XP.
{% endstep %}
{% endstepper %}

{% hint style="success" %}
**Tip:** run `crafting validate` in the server console at any time. It lists config typos and every item that's missing from ox\_inventory. Next, learn how to [add your own recipes](/visionstore-docs/scripts/crafting/configuration/recipes.md).
{% endhint %}

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://visionstore.gitbook.io/visionstore-docs/scripts/crafting/quick-start.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
